3 Luxury Tiny Home Designs That Inspire
When Jason and I began our tiny home journey, we spent countless hours exploring various designs. Did anyone else binge-watch Tiny House Nation and Living Big in a Tiny House? While many plans were charming, we struggled to find one that fit our unique needs. Some felt too cluttered, while others missed essential features. Eventually, we found a floor plan we liked but ended up customizing it to create our own ideal design.
In this post, we’ll explore a few tiny home plans for couples, including those with pets. We’ll discuss the designs we initially loved, share an inspiring luxury tiny home with a pop-up roof, and examine a minimal main-floor bedroom design that helped us envision a clutter-free space.
Once we saw the plans of Tinyhomiez.com we were hooked!
Char & Tony with Tinyhomiez have a 28’ trailer that’s 8.5’ wide. This model is called the Mika. You can purchase their tiny house plans here.
Our favorite thing about their luxury tiny home design is the exterior! The cedar on white metal really got to us. Who doesn’t love that contrast? Their tiny home is perfect for a couple with a pet. They have an adorable cat that they rescued. Another top feature of their tiny home is the full size closet downstairs. The bathroom is pretty large for a tiny house and has plenty of room for changing and even doing laundry. Their closet is in the bathroom so it makes outfit changing super convenient.
Char & Tony have beautiful vinyl plank flooring that looks like wood, but is water resistant. They even put some of this flooring material in their shower. We were generously gifted more than enough of a similar laminate wood flooring for our 238 square foot floorplan.
Kitchen
Jason and I absolutely love the kitchen in the Mika. There is storage for days! The deep soft close drawers really are a highlight to any chef’s kitchen.
They even found a way to make room for a DIY Keg and a lovely espresso machine. The stylish Nespresso Machine of course! My parents have a similar one and it makes absolutely delicious coffee. The layers you can get of foamy milk and frothy espresso are candy to the eyes.

If I were to get a Nespresso machine I wouldn’t do it without the milk frother. I only have one or two coffee cups a day and each of them must have frothy milk! And Silk Almond Milk is the one that froths the best. For my Aldi friends the Organic Unsweetened Almond Milk comes in a close second. #perfectfrotheveryday
Here’s the milk frother my mom has that we use EVERY time we visit.
Bedroom
The loft bedroom in the Mika design is just what a couple needs to sleep. It’s minimal and comfortable. Tony & Char designed a staircase that does triple duty. It not only takes them from the main floor to their loft bedroom, but it acts as storage while also providing extra seating in their living room. The loft bedroom is also hidden behind a half wall of storage baskets, which gives extra space to put away clothes and things you’d want easy access to from the bedroom. The only problem with this loft bedroom is the height of the ceiling from the floor of the loft. There is only enough room to crawl onto a thin mattress with barely enough headroom to sit on the bed. This is what we were planning on doing when we bought their plans. After much research though, we decided to forego a loft bedroom and stick to a main floor bedroom, using a loft just for storage.
In the tiny home plans of the Mika also you’ll see that they have a dedicated spot for their utilities. A mini utility closet, if you will. It’s convenient to have access to the hot water heater and electrical panel all from the outside while still being enclosed. In our tiny home design, we decided to put our electrical panel and on demand water heater right on the tongue side of the home.
Although we changed our tiny home plans and they aren’t like the Mika at all, we have no regrets in buying the plans from tinyhomiez.com as they helped guide us in making tough decisions for our DIY build.
Ultra-Tall Tiny House With Pop-Top Roof And Brilliant Home Office!
Living Big in a Tiny House aired this tour of Shani & Christian’s tiny home just as we were planning the new design of our tiny home. The timing could not have been more perfect. We fell in love with so many aspects of this build. The fact that it was a mostly DIY build was a huge boost to our self-confidence. Feeling confident when building something of this scale is necessary. It’s tiny, but it definitely isn’t easy. Let’s examine some of the luxury design details of this gorgeous tiny home down under.
Exterior
The Cocoon Tiny House on Wheels is 8’ wide x 30’ long x 17’ high. The roof comes down to make the height of the home roadworthy. The popup roof takes extra work to set up but makes it completely worth it when you get the extra head space in the bedroom. They have to unbolt the inside with button screws and their pre-built panels get installed to hold up the wedge of the roof. The exterior is in cedar wood that’s been charred to give it the Shou Sugi Bon effect. It is monochromatic with its black metal roof and black metal window and door trims.
Windows
In Shani & Christian’s tiny home plans they included two large gas strut awning windows in the kitchen. These windows are a game-changer for outdoor grilling and dining. The indoor-outdoor feel makes the home feel bigger.
Jason and I seriously dreamt about having a gas strut awning window in our tiny home kitchen, but when we found out the astronomical cost, we knew we would have to pass. Anyone else think $5000 for a window is out of this world?
This home has a double door in the middle of the tiny house and a large picture window to the right of that. Above the kitchen window to the left is a small awning window for the loft. There is another large picture window on the tongue side of the tiny house. These windows allow for so much light while making the space feel bigger than it is.
Living Room & Dining Nook
The wood slat ceiling is absolutely stunning! It’s curved to offset the boxed shape of the tiny home. There’s also a second door across from the main entry that leads to the outside. The U-shaped sofa in the living room is raised to add storage underneath. They have space for work gear, camera equipment and even two pull out desks. There’s a coffee table in the middle that is removable so the space can be transformed into a dining nook. The walls have vertical shiplap in a dark hunter green. The wall of the main door has horizontal wood slats that continue from the ceiling’s curved feature.
I thought we would be able to do a wood slat design for our ceiling too. I really wanted it, but we just couldn’t make it work within our budget. It would have taken so much longer to put the ceiling up and it would have cost a pretty penny to get the oak slats I wanted. So we went with straight plywood, in hopes we can do something more luxe in the future.
Kitchen & Laundry
This tiny home does not look cluttered at all because everything is put away. They have almost all of their appliances concealed. Even the washer is hiding behind cabinet doors! It’s amazing how Shani & Christian made a tiny home feel so large. They’ve kept it very clean and simple. The butcher block extends the whole length of the kitchen with the two long gas strut windows right in the middle. They have two cooktops next to each other. One is a double gas burner stovetop and the other is the Gasland Electric Cooktop. We bought the exact same one shown here.

GASLAND Electric Cooktop
We’re really happy with our two-burner cooktop. Of course, we would have preferred a white one to blend in with our other appliances, but the difference in cost wasn’t worth it to us. The black one still looks sleek and minimal in our tiny home design.
Plants
The wood slat planter box was one of my favorite features of the home. In September of 2022, when Jason and I moved down from Massachusetts, I drove our car and he followed in a rented van with all of our stuff. Bessy our Beagleman was with me in the back seat of the Sonata. We stuffed our trunk full of luggage and in the front passenger seat sat my large Monsterra Deliciosa. I was only able to bring a few of my plants from New England to Florida, but I wasn’t going anywhere without my Monsterra. Shani & Christian’s tiny home has exactly what I had pictured would be a place for my Monsterra in Lil’ Bitty. The Monsterra fits perfectly in the storage loft we built.
Bathroom
This minimal luxe bathroom has a large walk-in shower that measures 1200mm or 48” size with concrete looking walls and gold shower hardware. The sink and vanity match the slat ceiling and the green vertical slat walls all throughout. There’s more gold hardware sprinkled in the bathroom. There’s a pocket door with a large full length mirror. Their compost toilet even matches the green wall. Jason and I have gold hardware all throughout our tiny home bathroom design as well. Here are some of the luxury goodies we got for our sink, towel holder, and shower system.

Sleeping loft
This sleeping loft allows even a tall person to come in and walk with a regular size door. It has multiple windows that bring in light. There’s an angled roof with a skylight and egress windows on either side of the bed. There’s a window behind the door and one in a reading nook area. The bedroom is very cozy and like a “sleeping den” as Shani says.
This home cost them $103,000 USD in 2022. Which is very reasonable considering all of their luxury amenities. My guess would be that the lift-top roof cost them the most out of the entire build.

The Dark Horse Tiny House by Build Tiny was another major inspiration for our tiny home design.
The exterior of the Dark Horse is sleek with a gunmetal gray horizontal cladding and black window and door trim. The back of the home has a cool vertical cedar wood slat design. We absolutely love the main floor bedroom with no sleeping loft. Going to bed without having to climb stairs or a ladder to a loft was very appealing to us. The home looks super spacious and it has all of the amenities we need as a couple with a dog looking to live in a tiny home.
In this design the bedroom is on one end of the home with its own entry using double doors. The living room also has an entry door from the outside. It sits in between the kitchen and the bedroom. The galley kitchen has two stools looking out the window with a nice counter for dining. The built-in stove is built in next to the breakfast bar. Across the galley is the sink with a pull out trash bin, a small drawer underneath, an under sink cabinet door, two smaller drawers to the right and a mini built-in dishwasher under that. The sink, faucet and hardware all match with a matte black finish. The best part is you can do the dishes while looking out the window.
There are two extra cabinets above the window with double doors and black handles. There’s a built-in nook for the microwave above the apartment size fridge.
The range hood is great for extracting steam and odor from cooking. The tall pull out pantry got us excited to have one in our own kitchen.
The living room has a TV mounted on the wall with a shoe storage unit that inspired our own custom entryway cabinet. There’s a comfy storage couch that looks out at the full light glass door with double windows above the couch and open shelf storage.
The kitchen and bathroom are divided by a pocket door. There is a ton of storage in this tiny bathroom with room for a washer dryer combo and a drying rack that folds down off of the wall.
I like this one for our tiny house. I just have to find a spot for it.

Above the washer dryer combo is space to fold laundry next to the vanity sink. The shower has glass doors that make it feel more spacious. The bamboo compost toilet has storage above it on a floating shelf. I have to admit that finding space for dirty laundry in a tiny house is an often overlooked luxury. This home has it right next to the washing machine. To be honest, we’re still not 100% certain where our dirty laundry is going to go, but we’re sure we’ll figure it out. Our options are either next to the toilet in a slim laundry hamper or in Jason’s closet under his hanging clothes. Sticking it straight in the washing machine is another way to go.
This 32” x 32” shower has a glass door that makes the bathroom feel more spacious. I love that the sleek matte black hardware including the hooks continue throughout the bathroom and even the bedroom.
The Dark Horse Tiny House has the downstairs bedroom that did it for us! It has everything you need in a tiny home bedroom. The closet cabinets on either side of the bed make for a nice symmetrical design with a window and overhead storage. There’s even room for a nightstand on either side of the bed with double drawers in each. This design inspired our own main floor bedroom.
The best part is that there is more storage under the bed. The top of the bed lifts up with gas strut hardware. It allows the bed to stay up without having to hold it and makes it easy to lift and go back down. We got this one and put it on our custom bed. It’s not the easiest to install, so give yourself a couple of hours and ask a friend to help. It’s worth it for the extra storage space in a tiny home. Underbed storage is something you don’t get in a tiny house loft bedroom.

This luxury tiny home is also on a triple axle trailer like ours. Each axle can hold up to 7,000 pounds. The tongue side of the home matches the back with the cedar exterior siding. It houses the gas water heater. We put our propane on demand water heater on the same spot of our tiny home. This is the on demand water heater we bought…
